Description
Indications
Ramitace is used for:
- Treating high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Reducing the risk of heart attack or stroke
- Delaying the worsening of kidney problems (with or without diabetes)
- Treating heart failure
- Post-heart attack treatment when complicated by heart failure
Dosage
The dosage of Ramitace varies based on the condition being treated:
- Hypertension: Starting dose is typically 2.5 mg once daily, which may be adjusted based on response.
- Heart failure: Starting dose is usually 1.25 mg once daily, which can be increased gradually.
- Post-heart attack: Initial dose is 2.5 mg twice daily, which may be adjusted.
Side Effects
Common side effects include:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Cough
- Hypotension (low blood pressure)
- Rash
Serious but less common side effects:
- Angioedema (swelling under the skin)
- Hyperkalemia (high potassium levels)
- Kidney dysfunction
Precautions
- Allergies: Do not take if allergic to ramipril or other ACE inhibitors.
- Pregnancy: Not recommended during the last 6 months of pregnancy.
- Kidney issues: Caution if you have renal artery stenosis or are on dialysis.
