Description
Omeprazole is indicated for:
- GERD: To treat symptoms like heartburn and acid reflux.
- Peptic Ulcers: To promote healing and prevent recurrence.
- Erosive Esophagitis: To treat damage caused by stomach acid.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: To reduce acid overproduction.
- H. pylori Infection: Often combined with antibiotics to treat ulcers caused by this infection.
Dosage
The dosage of Omeprazole varies based on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the medication. Common dosages include:
- GERD: 20 mg once daily before breakfast for 4-8 weeks.
- Erosive Esophagitis: 20 mg once daily for 4-8 weeks.
- H. pylori Infection: 20 mg twice daily with antibiotics for 10-14 days.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: 40 mg twice daily.
