Description
Indication
Furosemide injection is used to treat:
- Edema associated with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and renal disease, including nephrotic syndrome.
- Acute pulmonary edema.
- Hypertension (high blood pressure) when it is necessary to reduce blood pressure quickly.
Dosage
The dosage of furosemide injection varies based on the condition being treated and the patient’s response:
- Adults: Typically, 20 to 40 mg injected intravenously or intramuscularly. The dose may be adjusted based on the patient’s response.
- Children: The dose is usually calculated based on body weight, typically 1 mg/kg and should not exceed 6 mg/kg.
Side Effects
Common side effects include:
- Increased urination
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Dehydration and electrolyte imbalance (e.g., low potassium levels)
- Muscle cramps
- Weakness
- Nausea or vomiting.
