Description
Indications
E mal Injection is indicated for:
- Severe Plasmodium falciparum malaria, including cerebral malaria.
- Second-line treatment for chloroquine-resistant malaria.
Dosage
The typical dosage for adults is:
- Adult Dose: 150 mg once daily for 3 consecutive days
- Children Dose: 75 mg once daily for 3 consecutive days
Side Effects
Common side effects include:
- Headache
- Nausea or vomiting
- Dizziness
- Pain at the injection site
- Stomach discomfort
- Chills and rigor
- Weakness
- Low white blood cell and platelet count.
Precautions
- Allergies: Do not use if you are allergic to artemisinin derivatives or any other ingredients in the injection.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Not recommended unless necessary.
- Kidney Impairment: Use with caution due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects.
- Severe Malaria: Should be used only when other treatments like quinine are ineffective.
