Description
Indications
Levofloxacin infusion is used to treat:
- Bacterial infections in different parts of the body
- Anthrax infection after inhalational exposure
- Plague including pneumonic and septicemic plague.
Dosage
The dosage of levofloxacin infusion depends on the type and severity of the infection, as well as the patient’s age, weight, and kidney function. Typically, it is administered once daily over at least 1 hour. The exact dosage and duration should be determined by a healthcare provider.
Side Effects
Common side effects include:
- Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Lightheadedness
- Trouble sleeping
Serious side effects may include:
- Unusual bruising or bleeding
- Signs of kidney problems (e.g., changes in urine output)
- Signs of liver problems (e.g., persistent nausea, loss of appetite, stomach pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine)
- Chest pain, severe dizziness, fainting, fast or irregular heartbeat.
Precautions
- Inform your doctor if you have any allergies, especially to quinolone antibiotics.
- Discuss your medical history, particularly of tendon problems, nerve problems, heart issues, kidney disease, liver disease, or mental/mood disorders.
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning booths, and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors.
- Stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
- This medication may cause dizziness or lightheadedness
