Description
Indication
Contiflo XL is primarily used to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). These symptoms include difficulty urinating a week stream, dribbling urgency and frequent urination especially at night.
Dosage
The typical dosage for Contiflo XL is one 400 microgram capsule taken once daily, approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day. It is important to swallow the capsule whole and not to crush or chew it.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Contiflo XL include:
- Dizziness
- Abnormal ejaculation
- Headache
- Weakness
- Nasal congestion
Less common but more serious side effects can include:
- Severe allergic reactions (e.g., swelling of the face, throat, or tongue)
- Fainting
- Priapism (a prolonged and painful erection)
Precautions
Before taking Contiflo XL, inform your doctor if you have:
- Severe liver or kidney problems
- A history of low blood pressure
- Any planned eye surgery, especially for cataracts, as tamsulosin can affect the pupil during surgery
