Description

Indication

Aprovel tablets are primarily indicated for:

  • Essential Hypertension: Used to treat high blood pressure when no specific cause is identified.
  • Diabetic Nephropathy: Used to treat kidney disease in patients with hypertension and type 2 diabetes.

Dosage

  • Standard dose: 150 mg once daily.
  • Increased dose: If necessary, the dose can be increased to 300 mg once daily.

Side Effects

Common side effects include:

  • Dizziness
  • Light-headedness
  • High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)

Serious side effects may include:

  • Allergic reactions (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat)
  • Severe dizziness or fainting

Precautions

  • Pregnancy: Do not use Aprovel if you are pregnant. It can cause harm or even death to the unborn baby, especially during the second and third trimesters.
  • Breastfeeding: It is not recommended to use Aprovel while breastfeeding, as it may pass into breast milk and affect the baby.
  • Kidney Disease: Use Aprovel with caution if you have kidney disease or are on dialysis. Your doctor may need to adjust your dose or monitor your kidney function closely.
  • Liver Disease: Inform your doctor if you have liver disease, as this may affect how your body processes the medication.
  • Hyperkalemia: Aprovel can increase potassium levels in the blood. Avoid potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium unless advised by your doctor.
  • Drug Interactions: Avoid taking Aprovel with medications containing aliskiren if you have diabetes or kidney disease. Also, inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
