Description
Indication
Aprovasc tablets are primarily indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in patients who are not adequately controlled on either irbesartan or amlodipine monotherapy. They may also be used to treat chronic stable angina and vasospastic angina.
Dosage
Hypertension
- Initial Dose: One tablet containing 150 mg of irbesartan and 5 mg of amlodipine once daily.
- Maintenance dose: The dose can be adjusted based on the patient’s response with a maximum dose of 300 mg of irbasartan and 10 mg of amlodipine per day
Angina
- Chronic stable or vasospastic Angina: Typicallly, 5 to 10 mg of amlodipine once daily.
Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Dizziness
- Swelling (edema)
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Flushing
Serious side effects can include:
- Severe hypotension (low blood pressure)
- High potassium levels (hyperkalemia)
- Kidney problems
- Allergic reactions
Precautions
- Pregnancy: Aprovasc can cause death or serious harm to an unborn baby if taken during pregnancy.
- Diabetes: Aprovasc may affect blood sugar levels
- Volume Depletion: Patients with sodium or volume depletion (e.g., those on intensive diuretic therapy) may experience symptomatic hypotension.
- Do not co-administer APROVASC with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) in patients with diabetic nephropathy.
