Description
Elicorid is a combination medication that contains the following active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs):
Rabeprazole Sodium: Rabeprazole suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the gastric H+/K±ATPase enzyme at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell.
Clarithromycin: A semi-synthetic derivative of erythromycin A, clarithromycin selectively binds to the 50s ribosomal sub-unit of susceptible bacteria, preventing translocation of activated amino acids. It inhibits intracellular protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria.
Amoxicillin: A semisynthetic penicillin (beta-lactam antibiotic) that inhibits enzymes (penicillin-binding proteins) involved in bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death.
Elicorid is used for various conditions:
Peptic Ulcer Disease: Short-term treatment for healing and symptomatic relief of duodenal ulcers and erosive or ulcerative           Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD).
GERD: Maintaining healing and reducing relapse rates of heartburn symptoms in patients with GERD.
Heartburn: Treatment of daytime and nighttime heartburn and other symptoms associated with GERD.
Pathological Hypersecretory Conditions: Long-term treatment for conditions like Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
Helicobacter pylori Eradication: In combination with Amoxicillin and Clarithromycin to eradicate H. pylori bacteria.
