Description
Griseofulvin is an antifungal medicine used to treat various fungal infections, including:
- Ringworm: A common skin infection caused by fungi.
- Athlete’s Foot: A fungal infection affecting the feet.
- Jock Itch: A fungal infection in the groin area.
- Fungal Infections of the Scalp: These can lead to conditions like tinea capitis.
- Fungal Infections of the Fingernails or Toenails.
- Warnings:
- Serious Skin Reactions: Griseofulvin can cause skin reactions, which may be serious and life-threatening. If you experience hives, fever, swelling of your tongue and face, or peeling/blistering of your skin, seek medical attention promptly.
- Liver Damage: Serious liver damage is possible, especially with high doses or prolonged use. Symptoms include easy bruising, tiredness, weakness, stomach pain, lack of appetite, and yellowing of the skin or eyes.
- Pregnancy: Avoid taking griseofulvin during pregnancy. There have been cases of conjoined twins in women who used this drug during pregnancy.

- Common side effects include rash, numbness or tingling in hands/feet, yeast infections in the mouth, stomach pain, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, and trouble sleeping.
