Indication

Piroxicam injection is primarily indicated for the treatment of:

• Osteoarthritis
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Acute musculoskeletal disorders

Dosage

The dosage of piroxicam injection should be determined by a healthcare provider based on the patient’s condition and response to treatment. Generally, the recommended dose is:

• Adults: 20 mg once daily, which can be administered intramuscularly or intravenously.

Side Effects

Common side effects of piroxicam injection may include:

• Gastrointestinal issues (nausea, vomiting, indigestion, stomach pain)
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Diarrhea or constipation

Serious side effects can occur and should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately:

• Severe allergic reactions (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat)
• Heart problems (chest pain, shortness of breath, swelling)
• Liver issues (yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine)
• Kidney problems (little or no urination, swelling in the feet or ankles)

Precautions

• Allergies: Do not use piroxicam if you are allergic to it or other NSAIDs.
• Heart Risks: Piroxicam can increase the risk of fatal heart attack or stroke. It should not be used just before or after heart bypass surgery.
• Gastrointestinal Risks: It may cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal.
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor before using piroxicam if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Other Medical Conditions: Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart disease, liver or kidney problems, or gastrointestinal issues.
