Felvin Capsules
Active Ingredient:Â Piroxicam
Properties:
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesic
- Exhibits analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties
Mechanism of Action:
- Inhibits prostaglandin synthetase, an enzyme crucial for the synthesis of prostaglandins
Indications:
- Symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation in conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis
Contraindications:
- Not recommended for patients with a history of gastrointestinal disorders associated with bleeding
- Should not be used by patients sensitive to aspirin and other NSAIDs
- Avoided in patients with acute porphyria
Precautions:
- Use with caution in geriatric patients and those with cardiovascular disorders, hypertension, liver cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome, and impaired renal function
- Safety for use in pregnancy has not been established
- Not recommended for nursing mothers
Dosage Forms:
- Available in 10 mg and 20 mg capsules
Side Effects:
- Risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and bleeding
- Serious GI toxicity such as bleeding, ulceration, and perforation can occur without warning
Note:
- It is advised to prescribe the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration possible
- Consider prescribing a gastro-protective agent alongside Piroxicam to mitigate GI risks
Usage:
- Treatment should always be initiated by a physician experienced in the treatment of rheumatic arthritis
