Paracetamol injection is indicated for:
- Relief of mild to moderate painp
- Reduction of fever
- Management of moderate to severe pain when combined with opioid medications
Dosage
The dosage of paracetamol injection varies based on age, weight, and medical condition:
- Adults and adolescents (≥50 kg): 1 gram every 4 to 6 hours, not exceeding 4 grams per day.
- Children and adolescents (less than 50 kg): 15 mg/kg every 4 to 6 hours not exceeding 75 mg/kg per day
Side Effects
Common side effects include:
- Pain at the injection site
- Weakness
- Headache
Serious side effects, though rare, may include:
- Allergic reactions (e.g., skin rashes, itching, swelling of the throat or face)
- Liver damage (especially with overdose)
- Hypotension (low blood pressure)
- Rash
Precautions
- Liver impairment:Â Avoid use in patients with severe liver disease.
- Alcohol consumption:Â Use with caution in patients with chronic alcoholism.
- Allergies:Â Do not use if allergic to paracetamol or any of its ingredients.
