Hexedene Mouthwash (Chlorhexidine Gluconate): Overview
1. Composition:
Active ingredient: Chlorhexidine gluconate (usually in a 0.12% or 0.2% concentration).
Inactive ingredients may include water, alcohol, flavoring agents, and other stabilizers.
2. Uses:
Gingivitis Treatment: Helps reduce plaque and inflammation in the gums.
Pre-Surgical Use: Often used before dental procedures to decrease oral bacteria.
Post-Operative Care: Used after dental surgeries to promote healing and reduce infection risk.
Oral Hygiene: Can be prescribed for patients with certain conditions that make it difficult to maintain oral hygiene.
3. Dosage and Administration:
Typically, patients are advised to rinse with 15 ml (about one tablespoon) of the solution for 30 seconds, twice daily (morning and night).
It’s important not to swallow the mouthwash.
Patients should avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after rinsing.
4. Side Effects:
Common: Staining of teeth and tongue, altered taste sensation, dry mouth.
Less Common: Allergic reactions, mouth irritation, and increased tartar buildup.
Long-term use may lead to an imbalance in oral flora or fungal infections.
