Description
Anacin is an over-the-counter (OTC) pain reliever that contains:
Aspirin (300 mg) – A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces pain, inflammation, and fever.
It is commonly used to treat:
Headaches (including tension headaches and migraines)
Muscle pain
Minor arthritis pain
Menstrual cramps
Toothaches
Cold and flu symptoms
2. Dosage & How to Use
Adults and children 12 years and older: Take 2 tablets every 6 hours as needed. Do not exceed 8 tablets in 24 hours.
Children under 12: Not recommended due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome (a rare but serious condition affecting the brain and liver).
Always take with a full glass of water.
Avoid taking on an empty stomach to prevent stomach irritation.
3. Side Effects
Common side effects:
Upset stomach or heartburn
Increased heart rate (due to caffeine)
Mild nausea
Serious side effects (seek medical attention immediately):
Stomach bleeding (black or bloody stools, vomiting blood)
Severe dizziness or fainting
Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
Signs of an allergic reaction (rash, swelling, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing)
4. Warnings & Precautions
Avoid if allergic to aspirin or other NSAIDs.
Not for people with bleeding disorders (aspirin thins the blood).
Not recommended during pregnancy (especially the third trimester) due to the risk of complications.
Avoid alcohol – It increases the risk of stomach bleeding.
Do not take with other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen) to avoid overdose risks.
