Description
Clarithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that fights bacteria in your body. It is used to treat various bacterial infections affecting the skin and respiratory system. Here are some key points about clarithromycin:
- Uses: It is effective against a wide variety of bacterial infections.
- Dosage: Take it by mouth with or without food, usually every 12 hours. For the best effect, take it at evenly spaced times.
- Side Effects: Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, and changes in taste. Serious side effects are rare but may include hearing loss, mental/mood changes, muscle weakness, and severe stomach pain.
- Precautions: Inform your doctor if you have heart problems, long QT syndrome, liver or kidney disease, or an electrolyte imbalance. Clarithromycin may harm an unborn baby, so use effective birth control during treatment. It can also pass into breast milk.
