Description
Indication
Valvas is primarily used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
It may also be used to treat chronic stable angina pectoris and heart failure.
Dosage
The usual dosage for adults is:
- Initial dose: 1 tablet (12.5 mg-160 mg) once a day
- Maintenance dose: Titrate as necessary (every 1 to 2 weeks) up to a maximum of 25 mg-320 mg once a day
Side Effects
Common side effects may include:
- Dizziness
- Swelling of ankles/feet (edema)
- Fatigue
- Headache
- Palpitations
- Cough
- Hyperkalemia (high potassium levels)
Precautions
- Pregnancy: Use is not recommended during pregnancy. Discontinue as soon as pregnancy is detected.
- Kidney function: Caution is advised in patients with severe renal impairment.
- Liver function: Caution is advised in patients with liver disease.
- Electrolyte levels: Monitor potassium levels, as this medication can cause hyperkalemia.
- Drug interactions: Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, as Valvas HCT may interact with other drugs.
