Description
Indication
Afabeta is indicated for the treatment of chloroquine-resistant Plasmodium falciparum malaria and cerebral malaria.
Dosage
Afabeta is administered via intramuscular injection. The typical dosage is:
- Adults: 150 mg (2 ml) once daily for three consecutive days.
- Children: Dosage is adjusted based on body weight, typically 3 mg/kg body weight once daily for three consecutive days.
Side Effects
Afabeta is generally well-tolerated, but some mild side effects may include:
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
Precautions
- Hypersensitivity: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to artemisinin derivatives.
- Pregnancy: Use with caution during pregnancy.
