Description
Indications
B-complex injections are used in conditions requiring parenteral administration of vitamins, such as:
- Pre- and post-operative treatment
- Increased requirements due to fever, severe burns, or increased metabolism
- Pregnancy and gastrointestinal disorders affecting vitamin absorption
- Prolonged or wasting diseases
- Alcoholism and other conditions leading to vitamin deficiencies.
Dosage
The typical dosage is 0.25 to 2 mL administered intramuscularly or slowly intravenously.
High concentrations given intravenously may need to be diluted with normal saline.
Always follow the specific dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include:
- Mild transient diarrhea
- Polycythemia vera (increased red blood cells)
- Peripheral vascular thrombosis
- Itching or transitory exanthema (rash)
- Swelling of the entire body
- Anaphylactic shock (severe allergic reaction)
Precautions
- Perform an intradermal test dose if the patient is suspected to be sensitive to the drug.
- Use caution in patients with known allergies to any of the ingredients.
- Do not inject if precipitation occurs in the solution.
