Description
Indications:
- Iron deficiency anemia: Astyfer helps replenish iron levels.
- Folic acid antagonist overdose: It’s used in combination with folic acid.
Dosage:
- Adults: Usual dose range is up to 600 mg daily (may increase to 1.2 g if needed).
- Children: Preterm neonates: 0.6-2.4 ml/kg daily; up to 6 years: 2.5-5 ml twice daily.
- Take Astyfer on an empty stomach, but it can be taken with meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Side Effects:
- Common side effects include heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation.
- Darkening of stools is normal due to iron content.
Precautions:
- Avoid taking Astyfer with dairy products, tea, or coffee, as they can reduce iron absorption.
- Consult a healthcare professional before use, especially during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
