Description
Arthrotec is a medication that combines diclofenac (a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID) with misoprostol.

- Arthrotec contains a combination of diclofenac and misoprostol.
- Diclofenac reduces substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation.
- Misoprostol protects the lining of the esophagus, stomach, and intestines while taking diclofenac.
- It is supplied as delayed-release tablets containing either:
- 75mg diclofenac sodium and 200 mcg misoprostol, or
- Indication:
- Arthrotec is indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis in patients at high risk for NSAID-induced gastric or duodenal ulcers.
- Dosage:
- For the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, the recommended dosage of Arthrotec 75 is one tablet twice a day.
- Side Effects:
- Common side effects may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and headache.
- Serious side effects include gastrointestinal bleeding, heart attack, stroke, and allergic reactions.
- Precautions:
- Do not use Arthrotec if you are pregnant.
- You must have a negative pregnancy test within 2 weeks before starting Arthrotec.
- Use effective birth control while using Arthrotec.
- Avoid Arthrotec if you have active bleeding in your stomach or intestines.
- Inform your doctor about your medical history, including heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, asthma, liver or kidney disease, and fluid retention.
- Diclofenac can increase the risk of fatal heart attack or stroke, even without risk factors.
